FSSPX to Continue Lourdes Pilgrimage Despite Bishop’s Restrictions The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (SSPX) has announced that it will continue its annual pilgrimage to Lourdes. Following the episcopal consecrations on July 1 in Ecône, Bishop Jean-Marc Micas of Tarbes and Lourdes withdrew permission for the SSPX to celebrate public Masses, administer sacraments, or organize public prayers at Lourdes. In an August 22 statement, Fr. Gonzague Peignot, superior of the FSSPX in France, announced that the Fraternity intends to continue coming to Lourdes every year, “Our Lady does not deserve to be abandoned despite the obstacles,” he said. Una Voce clarifies why traditional Latin Mass pilgrims were denied access to St. Peter’s Basilica. The International Federation Una Voce (FIUV) has issued today a statement correcting misunderstandings surrounding this year’s Summorum Pontificum Pilgrimage to Rome. According to FIUV, the Vatican Secretariat of State rejected the organizers’ request to celebrate the traditional Latin Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica in August. The organizers then sought permission for a collective devotion inside the Basilica, as had been permitted in 2023 and 2024 despite the refusal of Mass. That request was also rejected in a letter dated September 30, which reached the organizers only in October. Thus, pilgrims were denied not only Mass in St. Peter’s, but also permission for organized communal prayer inside the Basilica. We would like to correct some misunderstandings which have arisen over the organisation of the pilgrimage this year. The authorities (through the Secretariat of State) declined the Coetus’ request for the celebration of Mass in St Peter’s, in August.
