No Communion for Adulterers - President of Spanish Bishops Defies 'Amoris Laetitia'

One cannot receive Communion “when a marital relationship has broken down and those who were part of that marriage are living in a new conjugal relationship,” said Archbishop Luis Argüello of Valladolid, Spain, president of the Spanish Bishops' Conference, in a pastoral message reported by EFE (June 1).
Those living in a new conjugal relationship after the breakdown of a valid marriage must understand that the rupture of the Sacrament of Marriage “prevents them from receiving Eucharistic Communion.”
“They may participate in the celebration, as well as in the life of the Church in many ways, but receiving Holy Communion is not possible,” Archbishop Argüello said.
He also referred to other situations incompatible with receiving Communion, including “a sinful relationship” and “publicly defending positions contrary to Christian morality.”

Romanian Authorities Breach Monastery Wall in Pre-Dawn Raid

A property dispute between a Premonstratensian monastery and the city of Oradea in northwestern Romania has escalated after local authorities forced their way into the monastery in the early hours of Wednesday. The Catholic monastery was founded in 1130.
The video below, released by the monastery, shows police officers on site, piles of rubble, and a large hole in a wall through which officials entered the abbey.
Abbot Rudolf Anzelm Fejes described the operation as unlawful, saying authorities arrived "like thieves in the night."
According to local reports, he has since left the monastery.
The city administration says it was enforcing an existing eviction order against the abbot.
At the center of the dispute is ownership of the monastery complex and an adjoining school, both claimed by the religious order and the municipality. The school building is due to undergo renovation.

Spanish Government Orders Removal of Cáceres Cross

The Spanish government has given the city of Cáceres three months to remove the Cross of the Fallen (Cruz de los Caídos), a monument erected in 1938 during the Spanish Civil War.
The cross stands in Plaza de América in central Cáceres, about 300 kilometres west of Madrid. In April 2026, it was added to Spain's catalog of symbols contrary to "democratic" memory under a 2022 'Democratic Memory Law'.
The government classifies the monument as a Francoist symbol and argues that it lacks sufficient artistic or historical singularity to justify its continued presence in public space.
The Cáceres City Council disputes that interpretation.
Mayor Rafael Mateos (PP) says the monument has become part of the city's urban landscape and is no longer widely associated with political exaltation. The council plans to challenge the order in court and seek suspension of the three-month deadline while legal proceedings are underway.
