On August 29, Pope Leo XIV became the first Pope to take part by boat in the procession for the Feast of Our Lady of the Lake in Castel Gandolfo. After celebrating the Eucharist at the Church of Maria Santissima del Lago, Leo XIV boarded the Falco together with the statue of Our Lady of the Lake and crossed Lake Albano in a 25-minute procession, accompanied by canoes and other boats. The tradition dates back to 1954 and was established to bring together the local community and those who lived and worked around the lake.
Today, Leo XIV appointed Auxiliary Bishop Lizardo Estrada Herrera O.S.A., 52, of Cuzco, Peru, as the Coadjutor Archbishop of the same Archdiocese. He will thus be the successor to Archbishop Richard Daniel Alarcón Urrutia, 74. Just two weeks ago, the new Archbishop offered to the idol Pachamama. Pope Francis appointed Estrada auxiliary bishop of Cuzco in January 2021.
