Today, Leo XIV was half an hour late for his audience with the Italian Winter Olympic and Paralympic committees because he was meeting with David Alexrod, Obama’s chief strategist. The meeting ran over time.
David Axelrod is a central architect behind the rise and governance of Barack Obama - a presidency deeply at odds with core Catholic and natural moral teaching.
As chief strategist, Axelrod helped gain broad public acceptance for evil positions.
These included support for abortion "rights" (e.g., abortion coverage structures in the Affordable Care Act and repeal of the Mexico City Policy), the contraception mandate requiring employer coverage, and the redefinition of marriage to include homosexual - seen in the refusal to defend the Defense of Marriage Act and its unraveling in United States v. Windsor.
These policies also led to conflicts over religious liberty, particularly through the contraception mandate applied to religious employers.

Leo XIV Appoints French Bishop – Who Helped Turn Away Roman Rite Catholics

On 8 April, Pope Leo XIV appointed Monsignor Benoît Aubert, 53, as Bishop of Limoges, France.
A priest of the Archdiocese of Paris, he has served as pastor of the Dourdan–Bienheureuse-Marie-Poussepin pastoral sector in the Diocese of Évry-Corbeil-Essonnes since 2022, as well as serving as chaplain at Notre-Dame de l’Ouÿe, a retreat centre belonging to the Archdiocese of Paris.
He succeeds Bishop Pierre-Antoine Bozo, who was appointed coadjutor bishop of La Rochelle on 19 August 2025.
Listening, accompaniment and closeness
As episcopal vicar for young adults in Paris, Monsignor Aubert described his role as receiving what young people entrust to him, including "the most intimate, even the most disturbing" experiences, and becoming a kind of "receptacle of hearts".

Bishop Halts New Members in French Religious Community

Bishop Hervé Giraud of Viviers, France, has ordered the Famille Missionnaire de Notre-Dame (FMND), a Novus-Ordo community, to stop accepting new members and to suspend all religious vows, following a recent court ruling involving the community’s former superior, Fr Bernard Domini.
The decision, announced on 30 March, follows a French court sentencing the former leader for “abuse of weakness”. However, the community’s lawyer described the ruling as 'close to an acquittal'. Both sides have appealed the verdict, meaning the case is not final.
The bishop presented the measure as a precautionary step, but it has drawn strong criticism. Some families argue that it disregards the presumption of innocence and disrupts long-standing vocations.

German prosecutors target YouTuber over Christian videos and criticism of Islam – Allah's Willing Executioners

The Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched a criminal investigation into a YouTuber over a video containing a Christian message critical of Islam. As reported by the news agency Idea, the investigation has been ongoing since February 2025. However, the case only came to light on Wednesday following Idea’s report.
The case concerns the YouTuber “Niko”, who runs the channel “Eternal Life” together with another Christian. The 42-year-old is accused of violating the ban on “insulting creeds, religious societies and ideological associations” under Section 166 of the Criminal Code.
According to Idea’s account, the proceedings relate to a video from 2024. In it, Niko sarcastically commented on images of demonstrators celebrating the massacre of Israeli civilians by the terrorist organisation Hamas on October 7, 2023, saying: “It’s 2024 and anti-Semitism is officially permitted again in Germany.”
