Saving humanity
I have always thought that Jesus Christ is necessary to save humanity. Not "our humanity" because humanity like the whole creation is not ours.
Aside from being the pontiff with the most 'potty mouth', almost all of his papal remarks have been more hyperbolic than theologic. He often makes neither rhyme nor reason.

It is quite clear from the scriptures that St. John the Baptist would not have been the easiest person to have been around based upon his lifestyle and his unfettered, and very vocal, passion, however, I would take him over any of whom we are currently 'leading' the Church from the Vatican.
